The paper examines the impacts of local culture on human resource management (HRM) in a foreign country reporting on HRM practices used by the British-Dutch multinational corporation Unilever in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi culture is analyzed along the lines of Hofstede’s model. The adjustment of Unilever’s culture in the UK to the Bangladeshi culture is addressed investigating the company’s HRM practices in the areas of employee compensation, training and development, recruitment, selection, etc.
