The dissertation looks at the current trends in remote working in the UK small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) offering a case study of SambaStream, a provider of online software and maintenance services, to examine the perceptions towards online collaboration by SME owner-managers. Literature is reviewed on remote working and e-business in British SME, flexible working in SME, and the concepts of virtual enterprise, knowledge workers, etc. The case study uses the methods of primary research including surveys and interviews. Conclusions are made about the trends in remote working and their distribution with relation to age, gender, employees’ number, occupation status, etc. Attitudes towards remote working in business sectors are discussed highlighting the benefits of remote working and the barriers to its implementation.
