The dissertation investigates the recruitment and selection methods used in the mobile phone industry for retail managers conducting a case study of Phones 4U (P4U) and Carphone Warehouse (CPW) and addressing the problem of turnover in P4U. The review of literature touches on the background of both companies, the features of the recruitment and selection process, competency frameworks, methods of job analysis, techniques of assessing the potential of candidates, recruitment sources, selection methods, assessment centres (AC), psychometric testing, etc. The methods of the research are base on the analysis of secondary data combined with primary data collected via semi-structured interviews with HR personnel and store managers from P4U and CPW. Conclusions are made about the lack of clear selection and recruitment criteria in P4U as contrasted to CPW, and the problems associated with a large volume of applicants. Recommendations are suggested about the methods of dealing with external and internal applicants in selection and decision making.
