This paper examines Coloplast, a Danish medical devices supplier and their plans to offshore to China. Their decision is based on the success of their offshore project in Hungary, the paper examines the advantages and disadvantages of the same project in China. The external environment is examined through use of a PEST analysis, and the paper also examines the internal environment. Hofsted’s theory, Kluckholon and Strodtbecks cultural orientations framework, and Goeffe and Jones model of organisational culture is used to examine the internal culture. Employee motivation and commitment is then evaluated through use of Marlow’s theory, the equity theory, and the expectancy theory. The paper then suggests recommendations regarding the Chinese offshoring plan, which include the adoption of a new organisational structure to counter culture challenges, to address documentation problems, and to adopt a financial instrument to counter the exchange rate loss. The paper concludes with a detailed implementation plan.
