The dissertation looks at the demand side of the so called dark tourism exploring tourists' motivations for visiting the London Dungeon. The study seeks to explain why attractions related to death and disasters have become popular tourist destinations worldwide, and to identify the role of the media in promoting dark tourism. Literature is reviewed on the history of the London Dungeon, the development of dark tourism, its pros and cons, motivations behind tourism, effects of the media on tourism development, etc. The methods of the research include primary data collected via a questionnaire and an interview with the management on the issues of the demand for dark tourism. Conclusions are made about motivations for dark tourism and the way they can be used in tourism marketing.
