The dissertation investigates socio-cultural effects of tourism on the host destination offering a case study of tourism impacts on the city of Manchester. Literature is reviewed on the theory of sustainable tourism detailing the economic, environmental and social impacts of tourism on local communities. The methodology of the research is based on secondary data and primary data obtained from semi-structured interviews with Manchester residents. Conclusions are made about positive and negative social implications of tourism development in Manchester, recommendations are suggested with regard to future actions that could improve the social impacts of tourism in Manchester.
