The investigation has found that the UK Mobile Phone Network industry is typical of a high technology, innovative industry in that the environment is very complex and intensely competitive. There are considerable barriers to entry but it has been found that new entrants to the industry are possible where the entrant has considerable financial backing, e.g. already part of a conglomerate who wishes to diversify into mobile technology, and has a background of innovative development. The report also found that the demand for mobile networks is increasing, advances in technology are making it possible to offer more and more uses of the mobile capability thereby creating a strong demand for the latest gadgetry in the important 15 ? 25 year old market and sophisticated servicing developments within the business community designed to enhance their profitability.
