This paper analyses the key concepts behind Resource Based View (RBV) theory, by using examples of companies which provide VRIO (valuable, rare, in-imitable, and non-substitutable) resources. Each part of VRIO is analysed and explained, using examples like IBM Application System/400, the Rare Element Resources Company and Apple. Competitive advantage is evaluated, in relation to the usefulness of RBV, concluding with a summary of RBV.
