The dissertation looks at the situation within the energy industry conducting a case study of Yemen LNG, a producer and exporter of liquefied natural gas, to develop strategic direction for the company in the period of the global financial crisis. Literature is reviewed on the theory of strategic management (SM) offering a classification of SM approaches (schools) based on strategy design, planning, positioning, entrepreneurial and cognitive input, culture, power, etc. SM in the energy industry is discussed focusing on SM in the conditions of financial and economic crisis. The research employs qualitative and quantitative methods based on secondary data. Analysis of Yemen LNG is conducted including competitor analysis, the models of PEST and SWOT. Conclusions are made about the internal and external environment of Yemen LNG offering a strategic scenario for the company’s development during the crisis.
