The dissertation addresses the challenges faced by small and medium-size enterprises (SME) in the UK during the global financial and economic crisis. Literature is reviewed on the origins and impacts of the crisis and the effects of the crisis on UK SME in the catering industry. A study is conducted of three Oxfordshire restaurants, i.e. Paddyfields, Lan Kwai Fong and Mogford, to evaluate their pricing strategy, growth opportunities and financial performance during the credit crunch. Conclusions are made about the strategies and practices of the studied SME in the climate of economic downturn. Recommendations are suggested about the ways to enhance innovation and creativity, customer retention and loyalty, partnership development, etc.
