This dissertation examines the way in which the global recession has affected operations management in small-medium sized enterprises (SME) in the UK. The study begins by providing the background to the study and to the topic, and aims to provide theoretical grounding to the phenomenon of operations management, to analyse the recent changes of operations management in UK-based small and medium-sized enterprises, and to give relevant recommendations to SMEs. The review of literature discusses topics like the evolution of operations management, operation systems, Porter’s value chain, operations mix, challenges for operation management, operations management and the global recession. The methodology discusses topics like the research approach, ethics, purpose, and philosophy, and data is collected through use of survey questionnaires. All of the research collected is analysed, and the study concludes with a summary of recommendations and limitations.
