The dissertation investigates how the rise of the digital industry in the UK threatens the competitive position of the photographic industry, particularly small and medium-sized photographic-processing shops. Literature is reviewed on the changes in the consumer behaviour, the situation in the photographic market, the challenges faced by photographic retailing, etc. Theoretical models of Porter's Five Forces and the Resource-Based View are applied as frameworks for the review. The methods of the research are based on secondary and primary data obtained through questionnaires. Conclusions are made about the prospects of commercial survival and future existence of UK photographic SME noting the lack of innovative abilities to sustain long-term competitive performance.
