The dissertation investigates the issues of Information Technology (IT) and Information Systems (IS) outsourcing discussing the rationale for the outsourcing of non-core activities, i.e. call centers, accounting divisions and human resources function, examining the benefits and risks of outsourcing for the company and formulating hypotheses related to the key issues of IT/IS outsourcing. The review of literature touches on the role and features of IS outsourcing in business, the challenges and dilemmas of outsourcing, the practice of setting up call centers in India, the features of offshore outsourcing, etc. The methods of research include analysis of secondary sources and primary data obtained through a questionnaire distributed among the employees of 60 organisations. Conclusions are made about the difficulties posed by cultural differences and the lack of clarity with regard to service standards. Recommendations are suggested about the best practices to ensure the success of IT/IS outsourcing.
