The dissertation looks at the human side of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) addressing the issues of Human Resource Management (HRM) related to M&A and conducting a case study of the merger between Indian and British steel companies Tata and Corus. A review of literature touches on the theory of M&A, the recent trends in M&A activity, the key factors that determine success and failure of M&A, the reasons why companies resort to M&A, the impacts of M&A on the employees, the role of HRM in managing related difficulties, etc. The methods of the research are based on secondary data and primary data gathered from the questionnaires and interviews with HR personnel and employees of both Tata and Corus companies. Conclusions are made on the basis of the research findings suggesting recommendations about the ways to handle the key HR issues in Tata Corus including reward and benefit system, employee training, outsourcing, etc.
