This paper focuses on international business and is split into three sections. The first section focuses on the distinctive features of Japanese and South Korean business structures after world war two. The way in which these structures have changed over the last 15 years is also discussed, and the paper assesses the way in which South Korea mimicked the Japanese route to international business success. The second section examines commodity and global value chains in relation to the way they affect competitive advantage. The way in which manufacturing helps developing countries is discussed, as is the role governments should play. The last section examines the major changes that have taken place in non financial multinational firms in the last twenty years. This paper does not contain a reference list.
