The paper conducts PEST analysis of the macro-economic environment of the Information Technology (IT) sector in China and examines the strategies of entry and expansion used by the leading Chinese IT companies including Lenovo. The frameworks of companies’ international growth are reviewed comparing Ghemawat’s CAGE model and Lasserre’s typology of strategic alliances, and applying Lasserre’s model to evaluate Lenovo’s acquisition of the PC business of IBM.
