This dissertation is based on the impact that human resource management (HRM) can have on the development of competitive advantage in organisations. The objectives are to determine if HRM functions can act as a factor for achieving competitive advantage in the competitive industry environment, to determine if achieving the competitive advantage in companies is based on factors such as complexity to replicate the talent pool, the organisational structure, culture etc, and to determine if the learning and development of employees and constant motivation towards learning new skills can allow for the development of competitive advantage in firms. The review of literature provides a definition of human resource management, discusses the competitive advantage model, evaluates strategic HRM, and the role of HRM. The study then details the methodology, and follows with an identification and analysis of the findings. Conclusions are made regarding recommendations.
