GR/F/11. Security in Internet banking

WORDS:
15000
DATE:
2003
PRICE:
159.99 GBP

The Internet is continuously spreading to the population of the technologically developed world and, as it begins to realise the impact that the World Wide Web has on consumers, the banking industry is trying to take advantage of the new media, by expanding its businesses in new markets, or gaining higher market shares in existing markets. But as everyone is busy building the new economy, one very important question arises. Is banking on the Internet secure, or are we building an electronic Tower of Babel? The aim of this project is to examine the vulnerabilities of the Internet banking system, the methods of protection, the dan:gers involved and the attitude of the consumer towards all these changes with a view to the future. It will be an attempt to detennine the limits within which Internet can be beneficial for the banking sector as well as the consumer . In order to realise the vast importance of the issue, one does not have to be an expert. The number of articles on the subject of Internet security, in both technical and financial journals and magazines, would be enough to persuade anyone. The number of vendors, of Internet security products and consulting, would be enough to make anyone wonder. The Internet security infonnation section, on every bank's web page, should be enough to make even the most naive individual comprehend that financial organisations are on a race. And this rape is not only against each other, but also against the perpetrators at their gates.
