The qualitative study involves primary research with management and customers at a large Islamic bank, and examines the notion that Islamic banks were not engaging in profit-and-loss sharing to the degree that would be expected by customers. The dissertation examines the three principles of Islamic business – profit and loss sharing, fixed service fees, and free-of-cost banking and no charges – and the influence of religion within the organisation, in the form of a special Sharia advisory board.
