This essay brings out the changes in Turkey since the establishment of the Republic in 1923. The legal reforms and official discourses of the Turkish Republic have been discussed here highlighting issues of women and women's rights as they have changed through the ages. Women's position has changed in Turkey and more and more women are participating in educational and social reforms and women's rights and equality have been advocated by women's groups, feminist movements and even in the legislative procedures of the Turkish Republic. This argument is based on a brief history of the Turkish republic, Turkish culture and gender issues and from representation of women in Turkish politics to educational achievements and violence at home, several issues that suggest ways of being a woman in Turkey since the foundation of the Republic.
