This dissertation focuses on inflation, interest rates and housing prices in the UK. The study aims to identify if there was a correlation between housing prices and consumer spending between 1980 and 2009 and whether housing prices are a good proxy of inflation rates. The dissertation also aims to examine the role of interest rates in fuelling housing prices and consumer spending and to assess what determines the significance of interest rates as an explanatory factor. The review of literature examines a wide range of topics that relate to the subject at hand, and this is followed by an identification of the methodology used. Before conclusions are made, the study performs a detailed statistical analysis.
