Considering the retailing and selling of mobile phone networks and network operations, a brief report is provided here to show the importance of exclusive contractual obligations between retailer and customer. The focus here is on the concept of vertical agreement or vertical restraint that seems to develop an exclusive obligatory relationship between the customer and network operator and thus creates some sort of reduction of competition in the market. This issue is dealt with within the context of four questions on what vertical restraints operate in this industry, what are the possible efficiency reasons for the operation of these restraints, what are the risks to competition of these restraints, and whether the OFT needs to consider intervening in these markets at all.. A conclusion is drawn on these factors and considerations.
