This paper performs a cost analysis for rural sanitation options in Tanzania. The paper aims to explore the available sanitation technologies available to the poor in Tanzania, to investigate whether the rural community can afford these sanitation devices, are they shared or singly bought, what options are available in rural communities, to perform primary research into whether the cost of the technologies is reduced and passed to the consumers, and to examine whether it is price alone that is stopping the purchase of these technologies or is there other factors, such as culture. Data is collected through analysis of costing data and interviews, and the paper analyses all of the results found.
