The paper looks at the impacts of the embargo on wheat exports introduced by Russia’s government after the drought of 2010 exploring the possible consequences of the food crisis at domestic and international levels. Parallels are made with the riots caused by food shortages in 2007-2008 in Mozambique, Bangladesh and Mexico. The causes of food crises are discussed.
