The paper presents a chapter from a dissertation devoted to the methods of the research into the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) impact on Nigerian’s economy. Methodological approaches to academic research are reviewed including the ‘Research Onion’, definitions of positivism and interpretevism as research philosophies, etc. The complexity of the topic is highlighted, economic variables relevant for the research are identified, secondary data sources are indicated, econometric software ‘E-View’ is suggested as a descriptive statistics tool for data analysis.
