The dissertation explores the link between population growth and the country’s economic development providing analysis along the lines of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the African countries of Botswana, Cote d’ Ivoire, Congo, and South Africa. Conclusions are made about the impact of the population growth on the countries’ development and the dynamics of the GDP. Literature is reviewed on the effects of population growth on development. The research uses a deductive approach combined with statistical analysis. Conclusions are made about the effectiveness of population control in the studied countries.
