The paper examines the social impact of the online media on traditional newspapers in the UK and Greece looking at the newspaper industry from the perspective of democracy, and evaluating whether the freedom of expression has influenced the role of newspapers as propaganda machines. The changes in the newspaper readership are identified comparing cultural attitudes towards traditional newspapers in the two countries and arguing whether the status of the printed newspaper is still important for family and community. Diagrams related to the research findings are supplied in a separate file.
