The dissertation examines genetic mechanisms of inheritance with the focus on the inherited disorder risks conducting a case study of the skin condition known as ichthyosis. Literature is reviewed on the types of disorder inheritance, consanguineous marriages in the Middle East, laboratory process used to determine transmission of disease within families, skin physiology and anatomy, types of genetic ichthyosis, skin disease in the Middle Eastern population, particularly in Iranian families, etc. The methodology of the research is based on secondary data analysis and laboratory tests of blood samples collected from two affected families in Iran. Conclusions are made about gene mutation that could be associated with the skin disorder in Iranian families.
