The dissertation examines the methods of holistic ecosystem management based on sustainable co-habitation between humans and the natural environment of sensitive ecosystems in conditions of global warming and population growth. A case study is conducted of the Saudi Arabian shrublands’ degradation with the aim to address the needs of their preservation. Literature is reviewed on traditional forms of land management, the work of wildlife agencies in Saudi Arabia, theoretical underpinnings of sustainability and their application to desert environment, etc. The methodology of the research is based on secondary data and primary data obtained from online interviews with the staff of SA organizations involved in environmental conservation. Conclusions are made about the measures that are needed for the implementation of a sustainable ecosystem in SA.
