The dissertation addresses the violation of International human rights law and the violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan by the USA. The arguments used by the USA to justify its drone attacks are critically evaluated arguing whether the US use of force in Pakistan can be considered as self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. Prohibitions on the use of force and exceptions that permit the use of force are reviewed with reference to International law, the legitimacy of the US ongoing activities against terrorist non-state actors within the territory of Pakistan is questioned. Previous examples of counter terrorist efforts involving the issues of sovereignty are discussed.
