The dissertation examines the impact of media portrayals and celebrity endorsement on the levels of obesity. A review of current literature is provided touching on the issues of obesity and Body Mass Index (BMI), media portrayal of the ideal shape, mechanisms of shaping mental attitudes, etc. A study of responses to body image is conducted among British and Estonian participants using Thompson scale, PANAS scale, etc. Conclusions are made about the links between mental happiness or depression with BMI in men and women.
