The dissertation analyses the novels of Margaret Drabble 'The Garrick Year', 'The Millstone' and 'The Waterfall' focusing on their female protagonists. The theme of love is highlighted as the main theme of the novels, the social and cultural features of the 1960s are described with reference to the facts of the author's biography and their reflection in the novels. The female protagonists of the three novels are analysed from the perspective of their roles as daughters, lovers and mothers.
