The dissertation looks at the environmental impact assessment (EIA) in the UK investigating the public's access to justice through participation in Environmental Assessment and Management (EAM). The literature review touches on the theory of public participation, access to justice, environmental protection, legal framework of EIA, etc. A phenomenological qualitative approach is used as research philosophy, secondary research is conducted including the case studies of the environmental issues related to transport links expansions in Heathrow, Stansted and Cliffe Airport in Kent. Conclusions are made about the reasons behind the lack of public participation in EIA related to the future development of airport capacity.
