Literature is reviewed on the background of Ericsson, the role of intellectual capital (IC) in modern organisations, IC models, IC management, the need of IPR protection, the definitions of patents, the problems related to patenting and copyright, etc. A case study of IPR in Ericsson is conducted applying the grounded theory approach. The research uses the methods of secondary and primary data collection including questionnaires and interviews with Ericsson's executives in the UK and in Sweden. Conclusions are made about Ericsson’s position in the global telecommunication industry with regard to IPR.
