This dissertation examines the effectiveness of educational games on sixth graders in Saudi Arabia that are learning the English Language. The dissertation aims to answer the following questions, is technology necessary to make the games “fun”, is group learning essential to make educational games more effective, is technology necessary to get modern children to engage in the learning process, and do educational games create the necessary experiences that motivate the child to embrace learning? The paper collects data and information through use of experiments with the students. The review of literature focuses on theories of learning, foreign language acquisition (FLA), and second language acquisition (SLA). Conclusions are made regarding the use of educational games, and the dissertation analyses the research results.
