The dissertation looks at potential problems of global diseases that can be caused by a poor health infrastructure in the developing countries. Literature is reviewed on the roots and management of pandemics, the impact of health inequalities, government policies in combating pandemics, etc. A comparative case study is conducted of pandemic preparedness policies in two developed countries (UK and USA) and two developing countries (Nigeria and Uganda) evaluating national policy responses to the recent swine flu outbreak and exploring the alternative options of future pandemics management. Conclusions are made about the need for effective internal and external programmes to keep pandemics within country borders and help to develop sustainable healthcare in the developing world.
