The dissertation examines the approaches to conflict management used in China. Literature is reviewed on the features of the Chinese culture including collectivism as opposed to the Western individualism, the doctrine of Confucianism, the models of conflict management, interpersonal conflicts and “face” management, approaches to conflict avoidance, etc. A study is conducted to determine the influence of collectivism and Confucianism on conflict management within the ethnic group of Han Chinese. The methodology of the research includes analysis of secondary data and primary data collected from questionnaires distributed among Han Chinese populations of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. Conclusions are used about the prevalent use of conflict management mechanisms that enhance social stability and harmony within Chinese society.
