The dissertation addresses the challenges of nursing care for the aged focusing on the na-ture of teamwork in healthcare. Literature is reviewed on the theory of organisation, so-cial aspects of communication and the issues of healthcare delivery discussing the notion of teamwork, the demographics of the aging process, social and political factors behind the aging of Germany’s population, an increasing need for older people care in nursing homes, the nature of nursing home institutions, the link between teamwork and the care of the elderly, the drivers of the teamwork approach, the features of group psychology, the issues of communication and collaboration between nursing and healthcare teams, team management and team styles, holistic teamwork in the care of the elderly people, etc. The research is based on the analysis of secondary data. The situation in the nursing homes across Germany is assessed with the focus on the holistic approach to healthcare and the use of teamwork in nursing. Conclusions are made about the role of caretakers’ teamwork in German nursing homes.
