The dissertation seeks to explain whether the differences in male and female career outcomes are the result of discrimination against women, or whether there exist objective reasons behind women's inability to reach higher levels of management. The review of literature touches on theoretical approaches to flexible working, work-life balance, the so called ‘glass ceiling’ and the issues of gender discrimination. The methods of the research are based on secondary data and primary data collected from questionnaires distributed among 30 female managers at various management levels. Conclusions are made about the importance of flexible working in women’s career advancement and promotion to senior management positions, recommendations are suggested about HR policies that can reduce potential discrimination against women in management.
