The dissertation examines the implementation of the performance-related pay (PRP) programme by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and its effects on the motivation of their employees and managers. Literature is reviewed on the practices of PRP, PRP role in performance management, PRP programmes in investment banks, the challenges of PRP programmes, etc. The methods of the research are based on secondary sources and primary data collected from surveys and in-depth interviews with RBS staff members. Conclusions are made about the effectiveness of PRP as a motivation tool in the investment-banking sector and RBS, in particular.
