The dissertation examines the challenges faced by a project-based organisation when implementing a new performance management (PM) system. Literature is reviewed on the theory of PM including the nature of strategic PM, the difficulties of PM implementation, the role of leadership in PM, the measurement frameworks for PM, etc. A case study of Atos is conducted, a UK provider of IT solutions and services, using the grounded theory approach. The methods of the research are based on secondary data and primary data obtained from questionnaires, interviews and direct observation. Conclusions are made about the management issues of the new PM system implementation in Atos.
