This dissertation looks at the Vietnam war, and specifically the Tet Offensive and the media coverage it received. The objectives are to identify the theoretical debates surrounding the role of the US in the Vietnam War, to explore the impact of the Tet Offensive on the policy and politics surrounding the Vietnam War, to discuss the role of public opinion in the decisions made by the US Government before, during and after the Tet Offensive, and to assess the impact of the Vietnam War on subsequent US warfare in the Post-Cold War era. The study presents a theoretical review of the uniqueness and importance of the war, and then follows this with a detailed analysis of the Tet Offensive. The Vietnam war and its role in forming US opinions is discussed, along with its affect on policy decisions. The part that the media and propaganda played is assessed, and the dissertation then analyses examples of media footage. The study concludes by summarising the role that the Vietnam war played in changing warfare.
