The dissertation examines the challenges of managing cultural change and stress associated with post-merger integration. The frameworks of cultural integration are applied to merger and acquisition (M&A) environments. Literature is reviewed on the theory of M&A, post-merger integration, culture change, etc. The methods of qualitative research are employed including primary data obtained from surveys and interviews with individuals who have been involved in M&A. Case studies are conducted examining different M&A approaches based on the culture of the subsequent companies. Conclusions are made about stress levels associated with horizontal/conglomerate acquisition, congeneric merger, vertical merger, and horizontal merger.
