The dissertation investigates the current system of delivering affordable housing in London and its response to the credit crunch. Literature is reviewed on national housing policies, the impacts of the credit crunch on house building, agreements under Section 106 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, existing obstacles to house development schemes, etc. The methods of the research are based on secondary sources including house building statistics, and primary data obtained form questionnaires, telephone interviews and e-mail correspondences with the planning and housing sector workers. Conclusions are made about the affordability of housing provisions during the past 15 months and the benefits provided by S106 agreements for London developers during the credit crunch.
