The dissertation investigates the origins and consequences of the global financial crisis of 2008-2009 comparing its effects on the US and Norwegian economies. Literature is reviewed on the types of financial crises, their causes and effects, the economy of the USA and Norway, the theory of economics including economic indicators, and relevant theories including the world systems theory, Minsky theory, theory of games, debt deflation theory, etc. Comparative case study is conducted to establish the impacts of the crisis on the two studied economies. Conclusions are made about the economic situation in the USA and Norway before and after the crisis.
