This proposal aims to examine what conventional banking and corporate governance systems can learn from Islamic finance and governance to avoid future economic crisis. The objectives are to critically discuss the reasons behind the current economic crisis, focusing on corporate governance failures, to discuss the literature on Islamic finance and corporate governance, comparing this to conventional practices, to evaluate the corporate governance practices if the EIIB Islamic bank, and to provide recommendations for changes in the current systems in conventional banks. The research methodology is outlined suggesting that the project will take a case study approach whilst looking at the secondary literature.
