The dissertation aims to assess the growth of Islamic banking identifying its principles and practices and reporting on its operations in the UK. A review of literature provides information on the financial instruments used by Islamic banks, the history of their development and establishment in the west. The prohibition of interest (?Riba) in Islamic banks is defined, attitudes to Islamic financial institutions are reviewed identifying their problems in the UK and suggesting solutions. Research methods include secondary data analysis. Conclusions are made about the future of Islamic banking industry.
