This dissertation examines the Russian banking sector, and how it could be affected by the possible accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The paper has three objectives, to provide theoretical grounding and empirical evidence of the accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), to determine how Russia joining the WTO will contribute to the national banking sectors, referring to Sberbank and Vneshtorgbank, and to give recommendations to the stakeholders of the banks. The background of Russia and the WTO is provided, and the review of literature focuses on The Russian Banking Sector, the advantages and disadvantages of Accession to the WTO and empirical evidence. Semi structured interviews and analysis of the literature is the main data collection methods, and the paper deeply analyses the findings of the research. The paper concludes with recommendations and a summary of all things discussed.
