The dissertation examines the factors that determine the choice of party clothing by teenagers exploring whether the choice depends on the cost of the clothes. Literature is reviewed on the factors behind teenagers’ use of fashion and particular brands of clothes. A study of a teenager group is conducted using techniques of narrative analysis to identify their attitudes towards high street brands, and establish whether teenagers prefer ‘expensive and branded’ party wear or ‘cheap and trendy’ party wear. Conclusions are made about the interaction of factors behind the choice of party wear by teenagers.
