The dissertation addresses the challenges of teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) in multi-cultural groups of students with mixed abilities. Literature is reviewed on the theories and strategies of language learning focusing on co-operative and interactive learning. Primary research is conducted using questionnaires to identify the experiences of EFL learners and teachers and their attitudes towards the Language Acquisition Support System (LASS). Conclusions are made about the effectiveness of LASS for second language (L2) adult learners
